The Telangana government on Monday denied permission for a public meeting proposed by Jana Sena Party chief and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan… The Telangana government on Monday denied permission for a public meeting proposed by Jana Sena Party chief and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan at Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad on Tuesday. Telangana Jana Sena Party leaders had planned to organise a “Telangana Navanirmana Sankalpa Sabha” at Gachibowli on Tuesday and had already begun making arrangements for the event. However, the Cyberabad police refused permission, citing law and order concerns and the inability of the police machinery to provide adequate security due to multiple official programmes scheduled across Telangana as part of the Telangana Formation Day celebrations. According to sources, Jana Sena Party leaders are now preparing to approach the Telangana High Court challenging the denial of permission for the meeting. Sources said the Telangana government believes the present political atmosphere in the state is sensitive, particularly in the wake of the recent controversy involving Pawan Kalyan and political analyst Professor Nageshwar. Officials reportedly fear that any public event involving the Jana Sena Party chief could trigger protests and require extensive police deployment. Pawan Kalyan’s proposed meeting evoked strong reactions from Telangana leaders, including State Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and Telangana Rakshana Sena president Kalwakuntla Kavitha. On Monday, both Ponnam and Kavitha came down heavily on Pawan Kalyan for trying to create unrest in Telangana, alleging that he had opposed the formation of Telangana during the statehood movement. “Holding a political meeting on Telangana Formation Day is a provocative move that could hurt regional sentiments,” Ponnam said. He alleged that Pawan Kalyan was now acting as a political instrument of the BJP to undermine Telangana’s identity and self-respect. “He once claimed he fasted for 11 days after Telangana was formed. Now, on the same Telangana Formation Day, he wants to organise a public meeting here and shed crocodile tears. The people of Telangana will not believe this political drama,” the minister said. He further alleged that the proposed “Navanirmana Sabha” was part of the BJP’s larger political agenda aimed at creating divisions and social tensions in Telangana. He questioned why similar programmes were not being organised in states such as Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Kerala or Tamil Nadu. Kavitha also criticised Pawan Kalyan over the proposed public meeting. She questioned how a leader who allegedly opposed Telangana’s formation could suddenly claim affection for the state. Kavitha said that while democracy allows anyone to hold public meetings, Pawan Kalyan should first focus on issues in Andhra Pradesh before speaking about Telangana.
