The suspected gunman later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to preliminary findings from the police.The Muscatine Police Department said officers were first dispatched at approximately 12:12 p.m. on June 1 after MUSCOM received a report of a shooting at a residence located at 210 Park Avenue.Four victims found at first crime scene Upon entering the home, officers and emergency responders discovered four individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. All four victims were pronounced dead at the scene.Police identified the suspect as 52-year-old Ryan Willis McFarland of Muscatine. Authorities said McFarland had left the residence before officers arrived.Ryan Willis McFarland located on riverfront trail A short time later, law enforcement officers located McFarland on the Riverfront Trail near the pedestrian bridge. According to police, he was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officers and EMS personnel attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.As investigators continued examining the case, detectives developed information suggesting additional victims might be involved.Additional victims discovered at separate locations Officers subsequently discovered an adult male dead from an apparent gunshot wound inside a residence at 1509 Mill Street. Another adult male was later found dead from an apparent gunshot wound at a business located at 808 Grandview Avenue.In a statement, the Muscatine Police Department said preliminary findings indicate the shootings stemmed from a domestic-related dispute. Authorities added that all of the victims are believed to be family members of the deceased suspect.The investigation remains active as detectives continue processing multiple crime scenes and conducting interviews.School district confirms loss of employees and students The tragedy has deeply affected the local community, including the Muscatine Community School District.
